Now more than ever, innovations in coin security are needed to counteract counterfeiting advancements. Counterfeit sophistication is a threat for public confidence in currency. Unfortunately, counterfeiters are becoming more advanced in that they can replicate Electromagnetic Signature (EMS) and even sophisticated design features. This presentation will cover security threat trends in the coin industry and the security short falls and advantages of common materials used with a focus on the unique EMS offered by zinc-based coins. These security features are especially important when Central Banks and Monetary Authorities evaluate their banknote-coin boundary.
