Description – The Federal Reserve’s Cash Product Office will share insights from the 2019 publication of the Diary of Consumer Payments in an effort to understand U.S. consumer cash use and anticipate its ongoing role in the changing payments landscape. Discussion will then turn to focus on U.S. coin trends and current work between the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Mint to make ‘cents’ of the penny, addressing options to reduce the need to mint 8-10 billion pennies annually by piloting projects to both improve circulating supply and reduce the demand for pennies used to make change in cash transactions.
