The usage of cash is changing rapidly. We can try to ignore and interpret the data creatively, but the world around us is developing and changing. Consequently, everyone currently active in this industry should question their business model and adapt to this changing environment. The Royal Dutch Mint was privatized recently and consequently has reviewed and revised its business model.

Also the Ministry of Finance of Belgium has adapted to the changing environment and decided to stop the domestic coin production. Currently, the circulation and commemorative coins are produced, marketed and distributed by the Royal Dutch Mint.

The positive and negative aspects of this major change, as well as the learnings of the Ministry of Finance, the Royal Dutch Mint and other stakeholders, will be discussed during this presentation.
